Having a small entryway doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. In today’s blog, I will show you how to make a small entryway look grand and stylish with 4 DIY projects.

We recently finished our entire open concept living area, including our entryway and I am so excited to share the reveal with you!

So without further ado let’s get into these 4 DIY home upgrades that will make your small entryway look GRAND!

1. UPGRADE YOUR FRONT DOOR

An upgrade that anyone can do to elevate their entryway is to replace or upgrade the front door.

Entryway Makeover Before

If your front door is old and has dents on it as ours did, then I would suggest saving up some money to replace it.

Grand Front Door

We definitely splurged a bit on the front door. But we have no regrets! These mahogany double doors are absolutely stunning! They definitely make a great first impression even before you walk into the entryway!

But if your front just lacks style you can simply paint it! It’s amazing how a little paint can completely transform a door or anything for that matter!

Bright Paint Colors For The Front Door

Go bold with bright fun colors! Blues and reds are always popular, but greens and yellows on a door can look beautiful too! I LOVE a black door myself! It’s elegant and classic, a perfect combo in any design choice if you ask me!

Upgrading your front door with some paint is a super affordable way to upgrade your entire entryway!

2. PLANK CEILING

If your entryway ceiling is enclosed then adding a plank ceiling is an easy and surefire way to add HUGE character to your small entryway!

Our entryway actually wasn’t fully enclosed. But we were able to enclose it by adding two headers. Then we were able to add our plank ceiling to this space. You can see exactly how we did it all HERE.

These tongue and groove cedar planks from LOWES are absolutely stunning. It adds a touch of warmth, and character to this small space. And it brings your eye upwards, making the room feel grand and luxurious.

I would highly recommend adding a plank ceiling to any entryway!

3. ACCENT WALL PANELING

Another simple yet HUGE transformation to our entryway was the board and batten accent wall paneling.

DIY Board and Batten Entryway Wall

Board and batten is a very popular paneling choice for an entryway because you can add hooks for hanging things. Such as hats, purses, sweaters, umbrellas, backpacks, and more. And if you add a bench with storage you can store a lot more! This is very convenient if you don’t have a mudroom!

But if you don’t want to use your entryway for storage purposes, a board and batten wall will still give the space a huge transformation. And you can still add a simple bench with a few decorative items to accent your wall.

There are many other wall paneling options out there, such as shiplap and wainscotting. Picture frame molding is very popular right now and it’s so pretty!

We recently did wall panels in our dining room with picture frame molding and it completely transformed the space! It’s amazing what accent paneling can do to upgrade any space in your home, including a small entryway!

So pick one that you like and go for it! Make that entryway wall stand out with pride!

4. NEW FLOORING

The last thing we did to upgrade our entryway (and our entire living area) was to change out the flooring.

Changing the flooring in your home is no small task. So consider just changing out the entryway flooring instead. If your entryway has a defined space then it makes a lot more sense to do this.

Notice that even though this entryway is large it has a lot of the design elements we’ve spoken about. Including accent paneling and

But you can still add fun decorative tile as a flooring accent even if your entryway is not enclosed or defined in any way!

We used to have tile flooring which is very popular down here in South Florida. But we’ve always LOVED the look of wood floors. So we added this gorgeous dark engineered wood flooring from Lumber Liquidators.

If replacing the flooring in your entryway is not something you want to do at this moment, then consider getting a large area rug that covers up most of the space! This is an easy and inexpensive way to transform your entryway!

5. BONUS! HOW TO DECORATE YOUR SMALL ENTRYWAY

If you are able to do all of the previous upgrades to your entryway then you really don’t need much when it comes to decor.

Every single thing that we did to upgrade this space compliments the other perfectly. And it honestly wouldn’t look the same if even one of these elements were missing!

Don’t get me wrong, if you want to fill the space with decorative pieces that you love then go for it!

But doing all of these DIY projects made such a huge transformation in this space that I really don’t need to do much to make it look fantastic because it already stands out so much! And I want to keep it that way!

I want my decorative pieces to bring out the beauty and character of the space, not overwhelm it.

So apart from my BIG AND GORGEOUS GOLD CHANDELIER, I got simple decorative accents to spruce up the space.
