How To Style A Nightstand In Front Of A Window [That Actually Looks Good!]
If your nightstand is in front of a window, you might feel restricted when it comes to styling it. True, you can’t hang anything or add cute little accent lights above it. Or even lean anything on it (such as mirrors, wall art, picture frames, etc.)
But you can still have a super stylish nightstand(s) in your bedroom oasis. I will show you 5 super easy steps to style a nightstand in front of a window that actually looks good!
1. Start With A Large Nightstand
Large nightstands are becoming more and more popular. The bigger the better!
A large nightstand will naturally look good in front of a window because it fills up the entire space and gives it a proportional feel. Versus a small nightstand in front of a window will just look out of place.
Pro Tip: Make sure the nightstand isn’t too high because it might take away from the window and make it look out of place. A good height for a nightstand in front of a window is 30 to 32 inches.
And large doesn’t necessarily mean more expensive! You can find large nightstands on Amazon and Walmart for a great deal!
Even changing tables nowadays makes a great-looking nightstand!
Instead of searching for “large nightstand” try searching for “chest of drawers”, “dresser chest” or “3-drawer dresser” and you will be sure to find great options for nightstands!
Note: See Design Ideas below with links to affordable large nightstands and more!
2. Anchor Your Nightstand
Once you have your nightstand it’s time for the fun part! Styling your nightstand! I suggest you start in the center with a large table lamp.
A large/heavy piece in the middle of the nightstand will anchor it down. If you don’t use table lamps on your nightstand you can put a large vase instead. It can be purely decorative or it can hold florals.
I highly suggest table lamps though because they are not only useful for night reading but also create beautiful layers of lighting that can make the bedroom feel very cozy.
3. Add Small Decorative Accents
Now it’s time to get a little creative with little decorative accents.
Find things that are on the smaller side, but not too small that they might look out of place on your large nightstand.
Plus items that are too small can just end up making the space look cluttered. I’d say one or two decorative accent pieces are enough.
I got this little decorative vase which is small but still adds height. Then I just put a candle in front of that. Sometimes less is more folks! Actually, less is usually always more, as long as you do it right!
4. Add Some Greenery Or Florals
Bringing in some greenery and/or florals to your nightstand will bring some life to it!
If you have two nightstands you can put different florals on each one as long as they are within the same style.
Or if you already have florals on your dresser top then consider adding florals to just one of your nightstands.
5. Add Some Lower Layers
Okay, so you have a large lamp and smaller accessories to one side, now it’s time to add something low to complete the layered look.
Adding books to one side of your nightstand will help to layer your decor since they are low even when stacking a few on top of each other. Not to mention they can instantly make a room feel cozy, which is usually the feel you want to go for in a bedroom.

You can find cheap books at Goodwill, Home Goods, TJMaxx, Marshalls, etc. Just remove their covers so that you end up with a clean look.
Or you can invest in books that you actually enjoy reading and add a nice touch to your decor as well.
Then place something useful on top of your books!
This can be a trinket tray or catchall for your jewelry, coins, keys, etc. A low canister or decorative box are also great options. Even just a tissue box with a nice cover will do!
Decorative boxes also work double duty in aesthetics and functionality!
You can store remotes, jewelry, wallets, phones, etc. while keeping your nightstand looking beautiful!
You can have a high-end nightstand look and make it useful as well! You don’t have to sacrifice functionality!
