How To Create a Luxurious Master Bathroom on a Budget
A master bathroom renovation can easily end up costing thousands of dollars OVER what you budgeted for. This is why a lot of people give up hope on their dream bathroom makeover, thinking it too expensive. But I am here to tell you that you CAN create a luxurious master bathroom on a budget and I’m here to tell you how!
1. Choose a Light Paint Color
Yes, believe it or not, paint can have a big impact on the look you are trying to achieve. So, to create an elegant master bathroom, think light and bright neutral paint colors.
Note: For this bathroom, I picked the color Du Jour from the Valspar brand at Lowes. Click here for the best warm white paint colors from HGTV by Sherwin Williams!
*Pro Tip- To keep a light and bright bathroom consistency, choose light colors throughout. Such as on your shower tiles, and bathroom textiles like towels and linens.
2. Long White Subway Tile
Can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars on marble tile for your bathroom reno? No worries! You can still have a beautiful, luxurious shower tile for less than half the price with white subway tile! That’s right, you heard me, subway tile. Subway tiles are very affordable and can actually look very elegant in your bathroom remodel.
I chose long subway tiles in white (3″ x 12″) which look really nice in our shower. They have the sleek and simple look of a subway tile but their length makes it a bit more grand and eye-catching.
We did a light gray grout color which makes the subway tiles pop just enough while still maintaining a light and bright feel.
As you can see we did incorporate some marble tile for our bathroom niche. These black hexagon marble tiles add that touch of luxury, without breaking the bank!
This black-on-white color scheme gives the bathroom shower a fancy and elegant touch. And it’s a great pop of color! So if you still crave that marble look, add it to a small area of the bathroom shower, such as a niche or simply as a mosaic feature in the middle of your shower!
3. Flooring Statement
Make a statement with your bathroom floor by implementing a unique shape! You don’t have to stick with your typical square-shaped tile. This hexagon floor tile adds visual appeal and charm without breaking the bank!
Another unique bathroom floor style you can implement in your master bathroom is a herringbone pattern. It can be very elegant and cost-effective as well depending on what tile you choose.
4. Glam It Up with Gold!
Adding a few gold accents to your master bathroom will really make your bathroom look expensive! So add some pops of gold with your bathroom fixtures! The gold features will also add some warmth to the bathroom’s black and white color scheme.

These gold faucets are a little less gold than my other fixtures but equally beautiful. Your gold finishes don’t have to perfectly match in style and color, as long as they are similar enough, they will look good together.
These gold light sconces add timeless elegance (SIMILAR SCONCES HERE)!
This gold rainfall showerhead looks and feels like pure luxury!
I chose a mixture of gold and matte black finishes. Click here to learn how to easily mix metals like a pro!
The gold finishes are the star of the show of course!
And the matte black finishes such as the towel ring, towel hooks, toilet paper holder, and knobs, are a nice complement that make the gold pieces stand out even more!
5. Double Vanity with Marble Top
A double vanity is a great statement piece that will add grandeur to your master bathroom. And a marble top on the bathroom vanity will give it that expensive look you are looking for.
This beautiful 72″ bathroom vanity has a simple yet beautiful look with plenty of storage space!
I love that it has a mix of drawers, cabinets, and shelf space at the bottom, giving this vanity maximum storage capacity for all our bathroom needs and more!
Notice I did get it in white, adding to the clean, elegant feel of the bathroom as well.
If your bathroom is not big enough for a double vanity you might have enough space for a large single vanity, such as a 48-inch vanity. And these are great for extra counter space when you are getting ready!
Regardless, having a small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style. You can still achieve a grand look with this next tip.

6. Large Mirror
A large mirror adds grandeur to any space, including your bathroom! Not only that but it creates the illusion of a bigger space, so win-win!
These large decorative mirrors add height to our small master bathroom. They are the focal point of this bathroom, giving it a luxurious feel, especially with the gold sconces that frame them perfectly.
Now we do have a 10-foot ceiling so make sure that these would fit well above your vanity! I found some other great mirrors that are a little shorter but still bigger than your average size bathroom mirror just for you!
7. Large Shower
Walking into a large shower can make you feel like you just stepped into a spa. Giving you all the space you need and more. It also makes your bathroom feel bigger!
When renovating our master bathroom, we decided to actually make the room smaller so that we could make our master closet next to it bigger.
Our old bathroom had a tiny square shower, where barely one person fit, and a bathtub that took up a lot of space! And honestly, we never even used it!
So, we removed the tub, closed in the bathroom, and made that whole back wall a huge shower!
Our bathroom actually looks bigger now than it did before, even though it’s smaller in square footage!
The clear glass doors that let you see past the shower are definitely a contributing factor. As well as the light and bright colors throughout.

Hello. I love the design and thank you so much for sharing the details. I’m wondering if you can share what tiles you used in the shower and on the curb. Thanks!

Thank you, Meghan! For the shower floor, we used this round mosaic tile and for the shower curb we got a marble threshold floor tile similar to this one. I hope this helps!

This looks nice, but why would you say it was done on a budget and not mention the cost?

Thank you! The point of this blog post is to share ideas that look high-end while still being affordable. I share links to all of the materials used, where you can see the prices for yourself. My husband renovated our bathroom so we saved a lot of money there as well. I hope this answers your question.

Love love love your bathroom! My husband and I have been wanting to renovate our master bathroom for years. We have been slowly getting to each room in our house – the biggest project we had was the kitchen. We replaced so much stuff that we had to get a dumpster rental to get rid of all of the waste! We’re finally getting ready to renovate the master bathroom and I couldn’t be more excited! Can’t wait to show my husband this blog with your ideas!
