Without further ado let’s dive right in!

REPURPOSING YOUR CHRISTMAS DECOR

First and foremost, there is nothing stopping you from putting out all of your Christmas decor! In fact, you will see that you really don’t need much to add a touch of Harry Potter magic to the Christmas decor you already have. So bring out all of the wreaths, stems, and garlands as your basic Christmas decor and let’s go from there.

You’d be surprised how much of your typical Christmas decor can be re-imagined into Harry Potter Christmas decor. For example, your reindeer decor can become Harry’s patronous (a stag). Traditional red and gold ornaments would go perfectly for a Gryffindor common room Christmas vibe! And your Christmas village set could become a snowy Hogsmeade!

Mistletoe can be hung for those who happen to stand under it! But they better watch out for Nargles!

Even a train can become part of your Harry Potter theme! This viral Christmas train diffuser was not only gorgeous but my kids had a blast pretending it was the Hogwarts Train! It has a blue light feature which they pretended made the train go faster to get away from Voldemort while speeding into the sanctuary of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. You gotta love kids’ imagination!

As you can see, you might already have most of what you need when creating a Harry Potter Christmas magic! Now let’s dive into ways you can directly incorporate a Harry Potter theme into your Christmas decor.

A TOUCH OF MAGIC

When we think of of magic we might unknowingly think of stars. I know I do! There’s even a scene where Dumbledore is wearing a matching set of robes and hat decorated with stars.

When getting ideas for a Harry Potter Christmas theme I came upon 8 pointed stars a lot. So I wanted to implement those in my decor wherever I could! I found these little gold stars and hung them on my DIY entryway board and batten wall ledge.

These can also be hung underneath your mantel garland or you can use them as ornaments! But I personally prefer bigger star ornaments for my tree. I found beautiful ones at an At Home store but I couldn’t find the link for those so here are some similar ones I found at Target! I also found a super affordable 8 pointed star tree topper which matched perfectly!

A celestial star blanket or throw pillows covers could also work well! Anything with stars will instantly add a magical Wizarding World vibe in my opinion!

HARRY POTTER CHRISTMAS MUST HAVES!

There are a few non negotiables when it comes to Harry Potter Christmas decor. For me, Harry Potter stockings are a must! And there are so many to choose from! I got these Gryffindor stockings at Amazon for my boys and they absolutely loved it!

I used my personalized tags but there are even some stockings that come with the option to personalize!

Floating candles are also a HUGE must for any Harry Potter fan! I hung these floating candles on my chandelier which come with a wand remote control! How cool is that!

And I also placed these floating candle ornaments on my tree! I LOVE the old world vibe these give my tree but this year they definitely contributed to the Harry Potter vibe as well!

Under my tree I have presents wrapped in Harry Potter wrapping paper which is another Harry Potter Christmas must-have! This set of 3 Harry Potter wrapping paper was enough to wrap the kids’ presents!

Another Harry Potter Christmas must-have is art! I found beautiful Harry Potter downloadable art on Etsy but my absolute favorite was the Christmas Owl art piece! Trust me when I say this photo DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE!

ThisHarry Potter Train Station art piece is beautiful as well! I even used it as a backdrop for my son’s Harry Potter Birthday invitation! These prints are SO AFFORDABLE. If you have a printer all you need is cardstock paper and a pretty frame to display them in! Here are some more Harry Potter Christmas Printables I found!

Speaking of trains, my last Harry Potter Christmas must have is the Hogwarts train set going around your Christmas Tree! It’s the perfect finishing touch to my Harry Potter Christmas home.

I got the 28 piece Hogwarts Express Model Train Set last year which works just as great! You could even put a Lego Hogwarts Train in front of your tree if you already have one!

These must haves gave my Christmas decor the Harry Potter vibe I was looking for: subtle yet elegant. I did add a few more Harry Potter items throughout my home that were repurposed. I hope they will give you some ideas for your Harry Potter Christmas decor!

REPURPOSED HARRY POTTER ITEMS

Take a good look at all your Harry Potter memorabilia because you might already have a lot to work with! Check your Harry Potter mugs, toys, and even books and find ways to display them around your home!

I had a lot to work with between everything I got for my Harry Potter Halloween Theme, and my son’s Harry Potter Birthday Decor! Below you will see some of the items I repurposed for my Harry Potter Christmas decor.

Hedwig in her cage has to be my favorite Harry Potter piece! She’s so cute everyone has to have a look at her!

The flying keys I used for my son’s Harry Potter Birthday Escape Room Challenge became ornaments on my tree! I especially love this Harry Potter ornament near the flying keys, it’s straight out of the Harry Potter scene!

And my living room gave Gryffindor common room vibes with this gorgeous Gryffindor blanket!

These extra items definitely took my Harry Potter Christmas theme to the next level. And they are super affordable! Ultimately the amount of Harry Potter decor is up to you. You can keep it simple or splurge a little.

This Christmas theme is one that I have been looking forward to for a long time and I was so excited to see it all come together. But at the same time I didn’t want it to feel overwhelming. I think I managed the perfect balance of subtlety and elegance in my Harry Potter Christmas theme!
