7 Modern Farmhouse Dream Bathroom Must-Haves!

If you love the modern farmhouse style then you are not alone! It’s a very popular design trend and it’s here to stay! And there are so many ways to create a modern farmhouse vibe! You can implement shiplap, brick, wood accents, metals, etc. But when it comes to your bathroom, it could be a little tricky trying to figure out the best way to give it that modern farmhouse look. So today I will be going over the 7 modern farmhouse bathroom must-haves that we implemented in our kids’ bathroom design!

1. Subway Tile

Okay, so this one is pretty obvious I know. But the subway tiles really are a staple to any farmhouse or modern farmhouse design and therefore worth mentioning!

We tiled our kid’s bathroom with the trendy 3 x 6 white subway tiles. And to give it a bigger farmhouse touch, we chose a charcoal grout color. This really makes the subway tiles pop and gives them a more rustic look as well!

2. Pattern Printed Tiles or Hexagon Shaped Floor Tiles

Speaking of tiles, incorporating the right floor tile in your modern farmhouse bathroom is essential! There are 2 kinds of floor tiles that scream modern farmhouse and those are pattern tiles and hexagon-shaped tiles.

For this bathroom, we wanted a pattern tile. Since it’s a small bathroom with little floor space, a pattern tile would really make it pop, without making the bathroom look too busy. I found the perfect pattern floor tile at Home Depot!

This tile is sooooooo pretty, and I get many compliments on it! What I love most about this tile is that it doesn’t look like a stamped or printed image. It has imperfections and variations which makes these tiles look as if the pattern was painted on.

There are actually 2 tiles at Home Depot with the same design but one of them has a distressed look to it. So if you choose this tile make sure to select the right one and if you find them in stores, make sure to get all the right boxes!

If you’re not into pattern tiles, hexagon tiles are also a great option for a modern farmhouse style. We got these beautiful gray tiles for our master bathroom floor and I just love them! I will be sharing our master bathroom renovation soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

Our kid’s bathroom niche does have hexagon-shaped tiles as well, making that 3 different tiles used in the bathroom. But they complement each other beautifully, matching in color and style.

We chose white grout on the black hexagon tile to contrast with the charcoal black grout on the white subway tile. It really stands out and enhances the modern farmhouse feel.

3. Matte Black Finishes For A Modern Touch

This is where the really modern aspect of your modern farmhouse bathroom look comes in. Matte black fixtures have a very modern and sleek look to them. I got this showerhead in the matte black finish. And this matte black faucet for my pedestal sink.

The bathroom accessories are also all matte black as well with a very sleek and simple design to them. Such as the ring towel holder, the shower curtain rod, and the toilet paper towel stand.

We even got a matte black tile trim to frame out the hexagon-tiled niche! Yeah, there is a lot of matte black in here! But I complement it with lots of white so it doesn’t look overpowering and it keeps the sleek modern look that I’m trying to achieve.

4. Wood Accent Pieces

So we have a lot of matte black bathroom finishes to add a modern touch to the bathroom. And we have a lot of black and white going on with the floor and shower tiles (which also adds a modern feel).

Now it’s time to warm things up with some wooden pieces. We added these bathroom shelves above the toilet which add a warm yet still modern look because of the matte-black guards.

We also made our own bathroom towel holder from a very special piece of wood that was gifted to us. This wood slab is a century old and naturally distressed for an authentic rustic look!

We just added these hooks for our towels and voila! Our very own bathroom towel holder!

You can also add warmth to your modern farmhouse bathroom by incorporating some wicker baskets. You can choose from a variety of bathroom baskets such as storage baskets, waste baskets, or hampers.

I actually skipped on a light fixture and just did recessed lights for our kid’s bathroom. BUT if you are on the hunt for the perfect modern farmhouse light fixture I have some great options for you! And you just can’t beat these prices!

6. Modern Farmhouse Plants

Adding the right greenery is key for your modern farmhouse look. Yes, there actually are specific plants dedicated to styling the perfect modern farmhouse! Such as lavender, magnolia leaves, and eucalyptus plants.

I found some very cute faux eucalyptus plants for different areas of the bathroom such as the shelves previously mentioned and on these wall vases.

Please note, these vases did not come with the plants. I purchased these from the faux plants aisle in Walmart.

Faux eucalyptus plants are my go to whenever I’m decorating a farmhouse space. I added some popular choices below.

7. Bathroom Word Signs

Word signs are very popular in the farmhouse world. You see them in stores everywhere and there is a sign for everything imaginable!

Now I admit that word signs can be a little redundant, but as long as you use them properly they can decorate a space beautifully!

For our kid’s bathroom, I really liked the signs with the WASH BRUSH FLOSS FLUSH theme. I felt like it was perfect for a kids’ bathroom without it being too themey. So I got this bathroom sign to display on the shelf.

I also found this really cute wall sign which was the perfect size to go over my towel rack. These signs just add that perfect farmhouse touch to my modern farmhouse bathroom design!
