7 Fall Front Porch Decor Must-Haves And How To Style Them
When it comes to the Fall season, front porch decorating is essential! But it can be tricky to style it! There are so many elements, patterns, and colors to play with. So today I am sharing 7 Fall front porch decor must-haves and how to style them!
1. WREATH
Picking out the perfect Fall wreath is probably the hardest choice! There are so many different styles and they all look beautiful!
But honestly, sometimes less is more. In fact, this is my motto in all things decorating.
NOTE: I made this wreath with a grapevine wreath and eucalyptus stems. No hot glue required! You can also check out my Super Easy DIY Fall Wreath from last year here!
You can get a very colorful floral Fall wreath but it might feel a little heavy once you add all the other must-haves I will mention.
Especially if you have a small front porch like me. All of these Fall elements might end up competing with each other instead of complementing each other in a tight space. So you might want to tone down the wreath in order to make everything flow smoothly.
Opt for wreaths that have simpler lines and shapes and colors. This will make it easier for you to be able to put everything together effortlessly.
Here are a few of my favorite Fall wreaths:
2. DOORMAT AND LAYERED RUG
A Fall doormat is essential for your Fall Front Porch decor. Now I know what you’re thinking… but I won’t tell you to get a doormat that says “Happy Fall Y’all” or “Hello Pumpkin”. Although you totally can if you want to!
But you can also use the same “Welcome” doormat that you use year round!
Just add a plaid layering rug to make it pop a bit!
A buffalo check patterned rug is always a good choice for Fall. But I found this interesting pattern which can be used throughout the seasons as well!
I have a large doormat so I had to get a 3×5 area rug but if your doormat is smaller you can opt for a smaller layering rug like this one.
NOTE: If you ARE looking for specific Fall doormats you can see my favorite finds here.
Now you are ready for the fun part!
3. MUMS THE WORD!
Mums (short for Chrysanthemums) are the quintessential Fall flower. These flowers are beautiful and simple and they come in a variety of colors! From red, yellows, and oranges to pink and purple, and white!
But if you are like me and lack a green thumb, you might want to consider faux mums.
Finding realistic faux mums is essential!
I found these eucalyptus shrubs on Amazon that have a mum look to them. From far away, no one will be able to tell they are not mums! And they look so realistic!
I’m also loving these mums from Dollar Tree! They have a perfect mum look to them! They also come in a variety of colors as well.
Now you just need to put it together!
HOW TO DIY A MUM PLANTER
- Choose a planter for your mums.
- Get a floral foam block big enough so that the TOP of the foam will fit snuggly in your planter.
- If needed, shape the floral foam to fit your planter base. Use a hand saw to do this. Leave at least an inch of space between the planter edge and the floral foam. Cut the bottom of the foam if it sits too high.
- Stick the floral stems around the perimeter of the foam at an angle (towards the center).
- Stick the rest of your floral stems in the center, straight down.
- Fill in exposed areas with floral moss.
NOTE: Watch my DIY Mum Planter Instagram Reel to see exactly how I did this!
PRO TIP: If you don’t have a green thumb but don’t want to DIY a mum planter you can get these Mum spheres from QVC. They have a variety of colors and sizes. And there is no work! Just place them on your planter and you are good to go!
4. LANTERNS
Lanterns are a great way to add different materials to your Fall front porch decor. Wood or metal lanterns are perfect for Fall.
Plus they add a touch of elegance and coziness to your decor. Not to mention ambient lighting!
Create different levels of height with your lanterns to add layers to your Front porch decor. You don’t need many, 2 to 4 will do!
5. PUMPKINS
Now, this is an obvious must-have for your Fall front porch decor but it can’t be overlooked!
Now for the question you are really asking… real or fake?
You can’t go wrong either way so I say get both!
I have a collection of white faux pumpkins. But I like to incorporate a few real ones in my decor to make the others automatically look more realistic!
There are different ways to place your pumpkins. You can use a variety of heights to create a layered look. And you can place some on their side so the top faces you.
Or you can stack 2 or three pumpkins on top of each other from largest (at the bottom) to smallest (on top). This works well with pumpkins that are flatter and not so round. You can trim the stem on top to make the one above fit properly.
You can also buy a fake pumpkin stack and place it in a planter!
6. CORNSTALK
Cornstalk is a great Fall front porch decor element. It gives height to your decor and fills in that empty middle space between your wreath and your lower floor decor.
But cornstalks can be pretty expensive! I found these super affordable cornstalks a Michaels on sale at 40% off!
They add a natural and rustic feel to my Fall front porch. But they are not overwhelming in any way.
Just place them on either side of your door and you are good to go!
NOTE: For reference, there are 2 cornstalks on both ends.
7. MAPLE LEAVES
Last but not least, scatter some maple leaves around the front porch decor to give it a natural Fall feel.
You can use real or fake maple leaves for this.
I live in South Florida so unfortunately, I don’t get to see all the leaves turning beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. But adding these faux maple leaves gives it that finishing touch and gives me all the Fall feels!
