7 Simple Spooky Chic Halloween Home Decor Ideas {That Won’t Break The Bank}
If you love a high-end Halloween look, also known as spooky chic, but don’t want to spend a fortune then I’ve got some great ideas for you! Today I will be sharing 7 simple, yet crucial, design ideas for achieving that spooky chic Halloween look. And best of all, how to get this look on a budget!
As always, before you buy anything you want to check your inventory. We tend to forget what we already have and go out to buy similar things each year (I include myself in this scenario). So you may already have a lot of things you can work with! Now let’s get into what things you need to look for.
NOTE: You can tap on most of the images for links to items shown.
1. SPOOKY CHIC COLORS
Stick to spooky chic Halloween colors! What are spooky chic Halloween colors? Black and white with a mix of gold and/or silver.
You can add other colors of course, but keep it minimal. Let these be your main colors, and any other color can be an accent here and there. I find that moody Fall colors are the best colors for an elegant Halloween look. Think dark browns, mossy greens, deep purples, navy blues and burgundy.

I did mostly black and white decor in my entryway with a subtle pop of a velvet green throw blanket.
My kitchen Halloween decor is mainly black and gold.
I find that this mix of black, white, and gold colors will instantly give your Halloween decor a high-end look.
2. SPOOKY CHIC FIGURINES
Spooky yet elegant figurines are essential! Michael’s store is a great place to find these!
I fell in LOVE with this skeleton torso that I found at Michaels this year (also available at Walmart).
If you follow me on Instagram, you know how obsessed I am with this guy!
Upscale your figurines by adding books under them! I added the Death and Co. cocktail book which is great for Halloween Decor!
And I used these little skull heads as a bowl filler. I put brown and green moss underneath for an extra creepy layer and a spider which I got at Dollar Tree a few years back! See?! Always check your inventory!
3. CREEPY CLOTH
Creepy cloth is a great and affordable way to add, well, a creepy vibe! But you don’t want to overdo it! Just a touch somewhere to add a little spooky touch is enough.
I put creepy cloth under my fireplace mantel garlands, which creates a great layering effect as well. Plus these skeleton hands coming out of the eucalyptus garland is the perfect spooky touch on my mantel.
And bats coming out of the fireplace are always a MUST and the perfect finishing touch!
4. SPOOKY CHIC THROW PILLOWS AND BLANKETS
Remember tip number 1, keep your decor in the black white, and gold/silver color family. So that’s definitely where I would start when looking for Halloween throw pillows. But to add that spooky chic touch I suggest two specific kinds.
Floral Throw Pillows
I’m not talking about pretty pink florals, I’m talking about spooky florals!
This black and white floral pillow cover from Amazon was perfect for the look I was going for!
Velvet Throw Pillows and Blankets
Another great option is velvet throw pillows and blankets! It adds a very sophisticated and eerie look to your decor.
Just make sure to get dark colors. Like the dark throw blanket in the picture above or this dark green throw pillow from Target.
5. TAPER CANDLES
When I think of spooky chic Halloween decor I immediately visualize lots of taper candle holders. From long holders to candelabras to handheld taper holders.
There’s just something about taper candles that look high-end yet eerie.
I like to get LED taper candles with remote controls so I can easily turn them on when I want all the spooky vibes. They instantly create the perfect spooky ambiance, great for watching scary movies!
6. DARK FLORALS
Eerie florals are a must! And they don’t have to be black roses. Just pick dark florals that catch your eye and you are good to go!
I love these burgundy florals from Michaels. I also have dark green hydrangeas in another vase. And a dark brown eucalyptus garland on my mantel.
You can also incorporate black stick branches as your eerie “florals” like the ones you see here!
I just gathered some branches from around the neighborhood, spray-painted them black, and added little bats to them! Such an easy and affordable look! It looks even better if you put them in a nice basket with a blanket around it!
7. BLACK BOOKS
Black books are another great affordable spooky Halloween item.
Books in and of themselves instantly add a level of sophistication to any decor.
I actually got these books from Dollar Tree! I just made sure to get books with black covers (I took off their paper covers) and placed them with the binds facing away from view so that you don’t see their titles.
Etsy also has black books for a great deal!
